We believe in making place-based medicine more accessible, so each blend and product contains native medicinal herbs hand-harvested with love from private land in Big Sur. All other ingredients are certified organic or harvested from small local community gardens, ensuring the freshest, most potent, and most sustainably sourced medicines around.
Meet Herbalist and Founder
KATIE ROSE RICE
Hello! I'm Katie Rose, local herbalist, medicine maker, educator, and beekeeper based in Big Sur, raised within the Hatton Canyon of Carmel. Since I was a little girl, I have had a deep connection with plants and fascination with the human-nature interface, taking me to the Amazon Rainforest, islands of French Polynesia, cloud forests of Panama, verdant forests of Germany, and the Galapagos to conduct socio-ecological research. After the pandemic, this work inspired a deep inner call to return to my homeland and give back to the land in which I love more than anything else in the world. I started Garden of the Universe as a means for connecting our community to this special land that we share through making native medicinal herbs more accessible. My hope is that through tasting, feeling, and benefiting from these sacred plant neighbors, we can remember that medicine is all around us, and protect and honor the land as so.
