Garden of the Universe’s approach

We believe that in order to make deeply nourishing medicine, we must tend to the land, to the bees, and to the community in the most nurturing of ways so that its plant populations maintain resilience and robustness.

Medicine Making

We pride ourselves on providing organic, locally grown, and locally foraged herbal medicine. We work with local residents and gardens to source the freshest, highest quality offerings.

Honey Bee Tending

We also provide holistic beekeeping services to residents of Big Sur and Carmel. Our beekeeping method is all about the preservation of the honey bee and pollinators to ensure plant communities continue to thrive. We work with you to understand how the bees can help you (i.e., pollination services, honey harvest, meditation through beekeeping, hobby) and how in turn, you can help the bees.

Land Tending

At Garden of the Universe, we believe that teas, tinctures, and lotions are more than medicine, but experiences that can help us weave deeper with the land. That‘s why we strive to create products with local native medicinal plants, harvested seasonally, sustainably, and Spiritedly. We wildcraft from private lands always with permission from both property owners and plants, and never harvest more than 20% of a given plant’s aerial parts.

Community Tending

We believe that place-based herbal medicine should be accessible for all. That’s why we offer our medicines at local gatherings for free, holding space for community members to ask questions as they experience native plants medicine through our integrated tea blends. Our products are also served at the local Big Sur Bakery, and available online.

Growth Through Abundance

SUPPLIER TYPES:

1. ORGANIC BOUNTIFUL GARDENS

Have an abundant garden overflowing with certain herbs or fruits? Benefit your garden’s health and longevity through offering these herbs a haircut! We will come do all the trimmings and harvesting for you in exchange for the surplus!

2. “WEED” RIDDEN GARDENS OR LAND

Have land filled with weeds or native plants that are to be removed for a project? Allow us to come and remove these plants and put them to much better use than the Yard Waste Bin might!

3. FORGOTTEN LAND

Have sunny land and no idea what to do with it? Hire us to turn it into a medicinal native plant / garden sanctuary! If you want to do the work yourself, we also offer land consultations informing you of what is growing on your land naturally, and best management approaches to suppress invasive weeds and encourage native growth.
